When was the last time He
asked something of you, something that was hard, uncomfortable,
painful, sacrificial?
When was the last time, you said “okay?”
Worship
is the way we experience God. It is the way we interact with
Him. It is Music, yes. It is Prayer, yes. But it is so much
more than these things. In Romans 12, Paul says this about worship:Therefore,
I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your
bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this
is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer
to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing
of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what
God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Worship
is a transforming encounter with God. It may manifest itself
in a million different ways. It is not the form of worship that
is important; it is the heart of worship. Worship leaves a person
changed, and like it or not, it ultimately demands something
on your part.
Let’s
experience worship together through music, painting, sculpting,
dancing, shouting, crying, praying, mourning, giving, buying
lunch for somebody who can’t, paying someone’s electric
bill, telling somebody else about our encounters with God, conserving
the environment. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to learn how
to literally glorify God all the time? Worship is about the
pursuit of that goal.
Teaching
Whether
we want to admit it or not, there is absolute truth. There is
a black and a white. And there is definitely a lot we all have
to learn about the character of God. We believe God does have
a plan for everybody. Teaching is one of the
ways we find it. We must learn the Character of God to know Him.
We do this through preaching, yes, but also through bible study
and life-living. We teach each other as we study the word
together. To get a better
idea of what Soul Café teaches, you might want to read
our Statement of Faith. It is our statement of beliefs on Theology.
Here at Soul Café we believe that it in the essentials,
we must find Unity, in the non-essentials, we must allow diversity,
in all things, we must have charity.
Community
Community
is who we are. We are not an event, or a program, or a meaningless
ritual. We are a community. We live our lives
together. Community is expressed in many settings, be it at
large events, or two friends
sharing what God is teaching them over lunch, or taking camping
trips together. Community is how we live out
our lives together. But at Soul Café, Community
doesn’t just happen. It is intentional. It is vital.
Missions
In
John 12:32 Jesus says, “When I am lifted up, I will draw
all men unto myself.” This is our goal at Soul Café.
Not just to be a self-serving community of believers, but to
glorify Christ in our culture. The reality of your relationship
with Christ is that the more you become involved with Him, the
more you will want to involve others with Him. We are called
to go out and make disciples. We are called to interact with
culture. Our community is about having a relationship with our
culture. It is about tuning into the movement of God in our
neighborhood, city, state, nation, and the world.
Missions,
both local and global, are a major focus of our church. We offer
many ways to get involved with our community, and we offer many
ways to be involved with global missions as well. Our goal is
not be a club, but to really meet the needs, physical, emotional
and spiritual, of those around us.
